Description

Producer notes

Magpie Estate is a joint venture, which began in 1993, between famous Barossa winemaker Rolf Binder and English wine merchant Noel Young with a passion for Rhone varietals. The fruit comes from 15 long-favoured sites in the premium northern Barossa, drawing on Rolf’s deep understanding of the area. Noel then sneaks out into the night in a rubber catsuit and steals all the best fruit from these growers. The labels celebrate a superstitious theme, saluting the magpie.

Tasting notes

Lovely deep colour with berry fruits, spice, hints of cedar, some subtle smoky notes and liquorice. With a fine mousse, the wine has some lovely bright and more aged Shiraz characters on the palate. Nice primary fruit with some spice and subtle oak.

Production method

The grapes for this vintage came from bush vines with tight clusters. After 2 years in seasoned oak, the wine underwent a secondary fermentation in bottle and aged for 14 months. Decanted into tank we then added some very special vintage fortified Shiraz.
