Description
Producer notes
Located at the western reach of the Great Dividing Range, the Pyrenees is one of the most naturally beautiful wine regions in Australia. Described by wine writer Robert Joseph as “one of the most beautiful vineyards on the planet” the rolling hills, sweeping vistas, bluffs and stands of gum trees create a spectacular backdrop. Taltarni is one of the founding wineries of the Pyrenees region. The name originates from an aboriginal word meaning ‘red earth’ and applies directly to the iron rich red soils of the region. These are classic central Victorian wines, dense, powerful but with a uniquely fine and balanced structure and a marked tannic backbone that allows them to age beautifully.
Tasting notes
With floral aromas and flavours of ripe plum and raspberry, this wine is underpinned with notes of spiced chocolate and sweet oak. On the palate the sweetness has married perfectly with robust tannins from the Pyrenees to produce a velvety texture.
This wine has the elegance and structure expected from our terroir and delivers in every aspect required from this fantastic style of wine.

Production method | With 2016’s cool growing season, the shiraz was able to be left longer on the vine, intensifying its ripe flavours whilst retaining its bright natural acidity. Picked in the cooler night air from our estate vineyard and fermented in small open‐top fermenters, the wine was kept on skins for 8 days with hand‐plunging and pump‐ overs until it was gently pressed. The wine was then aged in French oak barriques for 6 months before being prepared for tirage in accordance with traditional method. After approximately 10 months on lees to further develop the wine and add to the creamy palate, the wine was disgorged and a bright lique |
